Pregnancy, the joys of being pregnant!!
Yes being pregnant is beautiful the first time you feel your baby moving, knowing that you are creating like. But not everything is fairytales and butterflies, you get nauseous, tired, those horrible swollen feet, weird pains in weird places and if like me your baby loves to party at 3:00 AM you are probably not getting much sleep. I even got blisters on my feet.
So how did I manage working those exhausting 12 hour shifts and still survive here are my tips and tricks.
- Sleep when you can. it’s okay to go to bed at 9:00 pm or take a nap whenever you have a chance, even that 1 hour of sleep that you get will make a difference.
- Wear comfortable shoes and ad insoles if needed.
- Compression socks will make a difference,at first they will feel a little uncomfortable, but slowly you will get used to them. What I did was wear them for a few hours until I managed to wear them all day. The ones I use are from a brand called Comrad and also the ones from Dr Scholls. These last ones are more affordable and you can find them at Walmart.
- Epsom salts are great. I like to get the unscented ones just because of pregnancy and I put them in my bathtub with warm water. If you don’t like taking baths or don’t have a bathtub you can soak your feet in a plastic container with water and epsom salts.
- Egoscue exercises work great, just look for some egoscue exercises for tired feet and these will help you feel less tired. I am not going to lie, they hurt but they really help.
- Drink water. Yes, you are going to go to the bathroom a lot but staying hydrated is key. Sometimes I like to add some powder electrolytes to my water just for some extra hydration. plus I got really bad morning sickness and this was the only thing that I would hold in my stomach. I just get mine at the grocery store from the kids section.
- This last one might sound silly. I work at a Mexican restaurant and during the first months of my pregnancy I hated the smell of those sizzling fajitas that everyone loves. So I wore a face mask. It didn’t completely help but it made it better.
I know this is a lot to read but this is what helped me.
Thanks for joining me.
